Russian thermal coal and anthracite are prized across Asia for their high calorific value, low moisture and strong physical quality. Sourced from the Russian Far East and shipped through Vostochny and Nakhodka, these grades complement Indonesian supply and give buyers greater flexibility.
Russian Thermal Coal (NAR 5500)
Traded on a Net As Received (NAR) basis, Russian thermal coal around NAR 5500 typically offers total moisture below 14%, ash below 14% and sulfur below 0.5%. The lower moisture content means higher delivered energy per tonne compared with many Indonesian grades.
Russian Anthracite (GCV 6700–7200)
Anthracite is a premium, high-carbon coal used in metallurgy, sintering, water filtration and specialty heating. Russian anthracite commonly delivers a gross calorific value of 6,700–7,200 kcal/kg with very low volatile matter, making it a clean-burning, high-value product.
Load Ports and Logistics
Russian cargoes load via direct berth loading at Vostochny or Nakhodka using geared or gearless vessels. Parcel sizes range from 25,000 to 75,000 MT, with a transit time of 8–12 days to Vietnamese discharge ports.
Delivery Terms
Buyers can contract on FOB, CIF or CFR ASWP Vietnam terms. Because anthracite and higher-grade thermal coal carry a premium, confirming specifications and rejection limits in advance is essential.
Quality Assurance
As with all coal trades, independent surveyor coverage at the load port protects both buyer and seller. Full documentation — COA, COO, Bill of Lading and Draft Survey Report — should be bank-ready for Letter of Credit transactions.
